A Bit About the Author
K.C. (Kevin Carlos) Dowling was born in Manchester and has spent much of his life in the Manchester suburb of Burnage. He read English at Manchester University and graduated with a B.A Hons Degree. To all intents and purposes (despite his Irish ancestry) he can be described as a true ‘Mancunian’.
During his formative student years he worked briefly as a Builder’s Labourer, Fishmonger, and Sewerman’s mate! Although this was an extremely vital occupation he was brought to earth when asking for a pay rise. He was informed by his boss “Kevin a sewerman is the (expletive) lowest of the low, and you are the (expletive) sewerman’s mate so forget it….” After leaving university he was a Teacher, Salesman and Journalist.
Later in life he was a foster carer and over a ten year period looked after seven children. He then worked extensively as a Professional Advocate for Social Services and has represented in a multiplicity of Children’s Safeguarding cases. He also served as a local councillor with executive responsibility for childrens services.
He currently lives in Marple, which is located on the edge of the Peak District, with his wife Elaine, a Local Government Officer. He owns and runs a small local hotel.
He has three grown up children who live independently, and two grandchildren.
